You could have the best website and top Google rankings, but if potential clients can’t figure out how to contact you quickly, you’re losing cases. People won’t jump through hoops to find your phone number or email. If they hit a dead end or run into frustration, they’ll move on to another law firm.
Here’s how to make it easy for visitors to get in touch with your firm, and why it matters more than you think.
Put Your Phone Number or CTA Button in the Header
Most visitors expect to find a phone number or a clear call-to-action button in the top-right corner of your website header. Don’t hide it. On mobile devices, make sure the phone number is clickable so visitors can call you with one tap. A simple “Call Now” button also works great here.
Include a Contact Link in the Main Menu
Your main navigation should always include a clearly labeled Contact link. Avoid cutesy or creative terms, “Contact” is what people look for. This link should take visitors directly to your contact page with no detours.
Add Full Contact Info in the Footer
Your website’s footer is prime real estate for contact info and a great trust signal for both users and Google. Include:
- Law firm name
- Address
- Phone number (clickable on mobile)
- Email address (also clickable)
- Links to your social media profiles (if active)
This makes it easy for visitors to reach out no matter where they are on your site and helps with local SEO.
Make Sure Your Contact Form Actually Works
This one seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how often it’s overlooked. We’ve seen plenty of law firm websites where the contact form:
- Doesn’t submit properly
- Shows error messages
- Sends submissions to the wrong inbox (or none at all)
- Doesn’t trigger any follow-up notifications
Often, the firm has no idea this problem exists until someone checks. Meanwhile, potential clients hit an error and leave, and that’s business you’ll never get back.
Don’t Make People Click Multiple Times
If a visitor has to click more than once or twice to find contact info, you’re making it too hard. Every click is a chance for them to get frustrated and leave. Keep it simple, obvious, and accessible from every page.
Run Tests If Things Seem Off
Regular testing isn’t just a nice-to-have, it should be part of your website’s routine maintenance. Here are a few things you should check on a regular basis:
- Test your contact form. If you haven’t received a form submission in a while, don’t assume people just aren’t reaching out, test it yourself to make sure it’s working.
- Check your inbox (and your junk folder). Sometimes form submissions end up in spam folders, and the firm has no idea inquiries are coming in.
- Review your phone numbers. If you feel like call volume has slowed down, scan your website and make sure the phone number displayed is current, I’ve seen law firms accidentally leave old or disconnected tracking numbers on their site.
- Double-check clickable links. On both desktop and mobile, make sure phone numbers and email addresses actually launch calls or compose emails with one click.
These small checks can catch big problems before they cost you leads.
