Local organizations count too. A current profile with the Los Angeles County Bar Association (which runs the SmartLaw lawyer referral service) or the San Fernando Valley Bar Association (which runs its own attorney referral service) is a trusted local listing that points to your firm. We check which ones you have, and which ones are missing or out of date.
Law firm SEO and marketing in Los Angeles
Los Angeles County has more than 8,800 law offices, from downtown to Long Beach, Pasadena and the San Fernando Valley. Most people looking for a lawyer here start with a search on their phone and call one of the first firms they see. A huge market, and a crowded one
Los Angeles County has 88 cities, from Long Beach to Lancaster, and its Superior Court runs 36 courthouses. The Census Bureau counts Los Angeles and Orange counties as one metro; these figures cover Los Angeles County alone (the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale metro division). Here’s what U.S. Census Bureau data (County Business Patterns 2023 for legal services, American Community Survey 2020–2024) means for your marketing:
| Measure | Los Angeles County | What it means for your firm |
|---|---|---|
| Law offices | 8,863 | Most practice areas have a long list of firms competing for the same searches |
| Offices with 5 or more staff | 2,247, about one in four | Plenty of competitors with real marketing budgets |
| Median household income | $90,112, about 12% above the US median | Clients who can pay, and fees that support marketing |
| Population | 9.81 million | Room for specialist firms in every part of the county |
What Los Angeles search results look like
We ran common searches from a Los Angeles location in November 2026, mostly on desktop, including “personal injury lawyer los angeles”, “car accident lawyer los angeles”, “immigration lawyer los angeles” and “dui lawyer los angeles”. Four things stood out:
The map comes first
Google showed its three-firm map on every search we checked, and on most case searches it sat above everything else, on desktop and mobile. That makes your Google Business Profile and local SEO the first job.
AI answers show up on some searches, not all
Google’s AI Overview appeared on “immigration lawyer los angeles” and “estate planning attorney los angeles”, right below the map. It didn’t appear on the injury or DUI searches we ran. We track whether your firm is named in those answers, and in ChatGPT, through our AI search work.
Directories take spots
Justia, Super Lawyers, Yelp, Avvo, LawInfo and LegalMatch showed up in the results, and LawInfo ranked first for “car accident lawyer los angeles”. A complete, consistent profile on each one helps.
Demand is huge, but specific
Google estimates about 18,100 searches a month for “personal injury lawyer los angeles”, 8,100 for “car accident lawyer los angeles” and 4,400 for “criminal defense attorney los angeles”, plus longer phrases and searches for individual cities. That’s why we build pages for the cases you want, not one page for “lawyer Los Angeles”.
Pages built for how Los Angeles clients search
People here rarely search for “a lawyer”. They search for a case type, a city or a question about California law. We plan your law firm SEO around those searches, one page each:
- Case type plus city: “car accident lawyer los angeles”, “workers comp lawyer los angeles”. Clear intent, and fewer competitors than the broad terms.
- Cities and neighborhoods: “personal injury lawyer long beach”, “divorce lawyer pasadena”, “estate planning attorney santa monica”. In a county this size, clients want a firm that’s close to them.
- California law questions: “can I sue if the accident was partly my fault”. California uses pure comparative negligence: an injured person’s own fault reduces their damages in proportion, but doesn’t bar the claim. The California Supreme Court adopted the rule in Li v. Yellow Cab Co. (1975), a case that started with a crash on Alvarado Street in Los Angeles. Injury clients ask about it before they call.
- Spanish-language searches: “abogado de accidentes los angeles” gets about 320 searches a month. A translated page rarely ranks; a page written for the words people actually search can.
- Your attorneys: each lawyer’s name plus “lawyer”, which is what people check right before they call.

Local courts and bar groups, used properly
Los Angeles firms work across the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, from the Stanley Mosk Courthouse downtown to its courthouses around the county, and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, whose Western Division sits in downtown Los Angeles. Appeals go to the Second Appellate District of the California Court of Appeal. Those names belong on your practice pages where they’re relevant, because they’re what clients and AI answers connect with a local firm.
California’s advertising rules, built in
California regulates lawyer advertising in its Rules of Professional Conduct and its Business and Professions Code. A few points catch firms out online:
A name and an office on every ad
Rule 7.2(c) asks for the name and address of at least one lawyer or firm responsible for each ad. Since 2026, § 6157.2(b) also asks for the city, town or county of a bona fide office, or your State Bar address of record.
“No fee unless we win” needs more
A contingency-fee ad has to say whether the client pays costs if there’s no recovery (§ 6157.2(a)(4); Rule 7.1, Comment [3]).
Careful with results and crash scenes
For electronic ads, § 6158.1 presumes misleading a case result shown out of context, a depicted accident scene, or a reference to money recovered.
Keep a copy
Whoever pays for an ad keeps a true and correct copy of it for one year (§ 6159.1).
We write your pages, ads and Google Business Profile posts within these rules and flag anything that needs your sign-off. You still have the final say on what your firm advertises, but you shouldn’t have to catch rule problems yourself.

Questions firms ask
Do you have an office in Los Angeles?
No. PointClick is a California-based company and our team works remotely, so we meet Los Angeles clients on Zoom or by phone. Your marketing is about your office and your market, not ours: we plan around your address, your courts and the competitors your clients actually see.
Do you work with firms in Long Beach, Pasadena, Santa Monica and the rest of the county?
Yes. We work with firms anywhere in Los Angeles County, including Glendale, Burbank, Torrance, Pomona, Lancaster and the San Fernando Valley. If you have more than one office, each one gets its own Google Business Profile and its own location page on your website.
Can you get my downtown Los Angeles firm into the map results in Long Beach or the Valley?
Sometimes, but distance matters. Google weighs how close a firm is to the person searching, so your profile is strongest near your office. Further out, reviews, a strong profile and good pages for those areas widen your reach. We don't create virtual offices to cover more towns: Google suspends profiles for that, and it puts your firm at risk.
How much does law firm marketing in Los Angeles cost with PointClick?
The PointClick Client System starts at $2,500/month. Firms in competitive practice areas, like personal injury and criminal defense, often need more content and link building, so they may invest more. Paid ads are an add-on at $1,500/month plus the ad spend you pay Google and Meta directly. We quote a firm number after the free Growth Audit.
How long before SEO brings in cases?
Some fixes help within weeks, like a Google Business Profile that's finally complete or a form that actually reaches you. Rankings for competitive Los Angeles searches take months. We recommend at least three months for SEO, and if you need calls sooner, Google Ads and Local Services Ads can bring them in while rankings build.
