Local organizations count too. A current profile with the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, The Missouri Bar or the Kansas Bar Association (which runs a lawyer referral service) is a trusted local listing that points to your firm. We check which ones you have, and which ones are missing or out of date.

A busy market split by a state line
Kansas City is one legal market in two states. The metro covers 14 counties, including Jackson, Clay and Platte in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte in Kansas. Here’s what U.S. Census Bureau data for the Kansas City metro (County Business Patterns 2023 for legal services, American Community Survey 2020–2024) means for your marketing:
| Measure | Kansas City metro | What it means for your firm |
|---|---|---|
| Law offices | 1,310 | Most practice areas have dozens of firms competing for the same searches |
| Offices with 5 or more staff | 359, about one in four | Plenty of competitors with real marketing budgets |
| Median household income | $83,460, about 3% above the US median | Clients close to the national middle, so clear fees and fast intake matter |
| Population | 2.22 million | Enough demand for specialist firms, not only generalists |
What Kansas City search results look like
We ran common searches from a Kansas City location in November 2026, mostly on desktop, including “divorce lawyer kansas city”, “immigration lawyer kansas city”, “dui lawyer kansas city” and “personal injury lawyer kansas city”. Four things stood out:
The map comes first, mostly
On desktop, Google showed its three-firm map on nine of the ten searches we checked, and led with it for searches like “divorce lawyer kansas city” and “immigration lawyer kansas city”. That makes your Google Business Profile and local SEO the first job.
AI answers and paid listings sit on top of injury searches
Google’s AI Overview led the page for “car accident lawyer kansas city” on desktop and “personal injury lawyer kansas city” on mobile. On desktop, the personal injury search opened with Local Services Ads. We track whether your firm is named in AI answers, and in ChatGPT, through our AI search work.
Directories take spots
Justia ranked first for “estate planning attorney kansas city”, and Super Lawyers, Yelp, Martindale and LawInfo showed up too. AI answers cited Justia and Super Lawyers as sources. A complete, consistent profile on each one helps twice.
Demand is real, but specific
Google estimates about 1,600 searches a month for “divorce lawyer kansas city”, 1,600 for “family lawyer kansas city” and 1,000 for “immigration lawyer kansas city”, plus longer phrases and searches for nearby towns. That’s why we build pages for the cases you want, not one page for “lawyer Kansas City”.
Pages built for how Kansas City clients search
People here rarely search for “a lawyer”. They search for a case type, a town or a question about Missouri or Kansas law. We plan your law firm SEO around those searches, one page each:
- Case type plus city: “divorce lawyer kansas city”, “dui lawyer kansas city”. Clear intent, and fewer competitors than the broad terms.
- Towns and counties: “family lawyer overland park”, “dui lawyer olathe”, “estate planning attorney independence”. Clients often want a firm near the courthouse they’ll be in, on the right side of the state line.
- State law questions: “can I sue if I was partly at fault in Missouri”. Missouri uses pure comparative fault: an injured person’s own fault cuts the damages but doesn’t bar the claim (Gustafson v. Benda, Supreme Court of Missouri, 1983). In Kansas, the claim is barred unless their negligence was less than the other side’s (K.S.A. 60-258a). Injury clients ask about it before they call.
- Spanish-language searches: “abogado de inmigración en kansas city”. Google estimates about 140 searches a month for “abogado de inmigracion kansas city” alone. A translated page rarely ranks; a page written for the words people actually search can.
- Your attorneys: each lawyer’s name plus “lawyer”, which is what people check right before they call.

Local courts and bar groups, used properly
Kansas City firms work across two court systems: the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Jackson County, with courthouses in Kansas City and Independence, the Johnson County District Court in Olathe, and the federal courts for the Western District of Missouri and the District of Kansas. Those names belong on your practice pages where they’re relevant, because they’re what clients and AI answers connect with a local firm.
Missouri and Kansas advertising rules, built in
Missouri and Kansas each have their own rules for lawyer advertising, and Missouri’s go further. A few that catch firms out online:
Missouri’s required sentence
Rule 4-7.2(f) asks most ads to carry a conspicuous line: “The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely upon advertisements.”
Branch offices need care in Missouri
Rule 4-7.2(e) bars advertising an office other than your principal one unless a lawyer is there at least three days a week, or the ad says when one is there or that meetings are by appointment only.
Keep copies on both sides
Missouri Rule 4-7.2(b) and Kansas KRPC 7.2(b) both ask you to keep a copy of each ad, with a record of when and where it ran, for two years. Kansas also asks for the name of at least one responsible lawyer on every ad (KRPC 7.2(d)).
Targeted letters
Missouri bars written solicitations to accident victims until the accident is at least 30 days old (Rule 4-7.3(c)(4)). Kansas requires “Advertising Material” on targeted messages (KRPC 7.3(c)).
We write your pages, ads and Google Business Profile posts within these rules and flag anything that needs your sign-off. You still have the final say on what your firm advertises, but you shouldn’t have to catch rule problems yourself.

Questions firms ask
Do you have an office in Kansas City?
No. PointClick is a California-based company and our team works remotely, so we meet Kansas City clients on Zoom or by phone. Your marketing is about your office and your market, not ours: we plan around your address, your courts and the competitors your clients actually see.
Do you work with firms in Overland Park, Olathe, Independence and the rest of the metro?
Yes. We work with firms anywhere in the Kansas City area, on both sides of the state line, including Jackson County, Clay County and Platte County in Missouri and Johnson County and Wyandotte County in Kansas. If you have more than one office, each one gets its own Google Business Profile and its own location page on your website.
Can you get my Kansas City, Missouri firm into the map results in Overland Park or Olathe?
Sometimes, but distance matters. Google weighs how close a firm is to the person searching, so your profile is strongest near your office. Further out, reviews, a strong profile and good pages for those areas widen your reach. We don't create virtual offices to cover more towns: Google suspends profiles for that, and it puts your firm at risk.
How much does law firm marketing in Kansas City cost with PointClick?
The PointClick Client System starts at $2,500/month. Firms in competitive practice areas, like personal injury and criminal defense, often need more content and link building, so they may invest more. Paid ads are an add-on at $1,500/month plus the ad spend you pay Google and Meta directly. We quote a firm number after the free Growth Audit.
How long before SEO brings in cases?
Some fixes help within weeks, like a Google Business Profile that's finally complete or a form that actually reaches you. Rankings for competitive Kansas City searches take months. We recommend at least three months for SEO, and if you need calls sooner, Google Ads and Local Services Ads can bring them in while rankings build.
