Local organizations count too. A current profile with the Hillsborough County Bar Association (which runs a Lawyer Referral & Information Service) or The Florida Bar, which runs its own Lawyer Referral Service, is a trusted listing that points to your firm. We check which ones you have, and which ones are missing or out of date.
Law firm SEO and marketing in Tampa
The Tampa Bay metro has more than 2,600 law offices, from downtown Tampa to St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Brandon. Most people looking for a lawyer here start with a search on their phone and call one of the first firms they see. We help Tampa-area firms show up in Google Maps, search results and AI answers, then turn those searches into signed clients.

A busy market on both sides of the bay
Tampa Bay is a busy legal market split across the water. The metro covers four counties: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando. Here’s what U.S. Census Bureau data for the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro (County Business Patterns 2023 for legal services, American Community Survey 2020–2024) means for your marketing:
| Measure | Tampa metro | What it means for your firm |
|---|---|---|
| Law offices | 2,662 | Most practice areas have dozens of firms competing for the same searches |
| Offices with 5 or more staff | 760, more than one in four | Plenty of competitors with real marketing budgets |
| Median household income | $74,392, about 8% below the US median | Clients weigh cost carefully, so clear fees and fast follow-up make the difference |
| Population | 3.30 million | Enough demand for specialist firms, not only generalists |
What Tampa search results look like
We ran common searches from a Tampa location in November 2026, mostly on desktop, including “criminal defense attorney tampa”, “divorce lawyer tampa”, “immigration lawyer tampa” and “dui lawyer tampa”. Four things stood out:
The map sits at the top
Google showed its three-firm map on every practice-area search we checked, and the only thing that ever came before it was Google’s own AI answer. That makes your Google Business Profile and local SEO the first job.
AI answers lead the big searches
Google’s AI Overview opened the desktop page for “criminal defense attorney tampa”, “divorce lawyer tampa” and “workers comp lawyer tampa”, above the map, and showed up on mobile for “dui lawyer tampa”. We track whether your firm is named in those answers, and in ChatGPT, through our AI search work.
Directories take spots, and AI cites them
Yelp was the first organic result for “personal injury lawyer tampa” on mobile, and LawInfo was first for “divorce lawyer tampa”. Super Lawyers and Justia appeared as sources in the AI answer for criminal defense. A complete, consistent profile on each one helps twice.
Demand is real, but specific
Google estimates about 2,900 searches a month for “criminal defense attorney tampa”, 2,400 for “family lawyer tampa” and 1,900 for “immigration lawyer tampa”, plus longer phrases and searches for nearby cities. That’s why we build pages for the cases you want, not one page for “lawyer Tampa”.
Pages built for how Tampa clients search
People here rarely search for “a lawyer”. They search for a case type, a city or a question about Florida law. We plan your law firm SEO around those searches, one page each:
- Case type plus city: “family lawyer tampa”, “workers comp lawyer tampa”. Clear intent, and fewer competitors than the broad terms.
- Cities and counties: “divorce lawyer st petersburg”, “estate planning attorney clearwater”, “dui lawyer new port richey”. Clients often want a firm near the courthouse they’ll be in.
- Florida law questions: “what if I’m 50% at fault for an accident in Florida”. Florida changed its rule in 2023: under Florida Statutes § 768.81, an injured person found more than 50% at fault for their own harm can’t recover damages, except in medical negligence cases. Injury clients search for this before they call.
- Spanish-language searches: Google estimates about 260 searches a month for “abogado de inmigracion tampa”. A translated page rarely ranks; a page written for the words people actually search can.
- Your attorneys: each lawyer’s name plus “lawyer”, which is what people check right before they call.

Local courts and bar groups, used properly
Tampa-area firms work across the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County, the Sixth Judicial Circuit for Pinellas and Pasco counties, the Fifth Judicial Circuit, which includes Hernando County, and the Tampa Division of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Those names belong on your practice pages where they’re relevant, because they’re what clients and AI answers connect with a local firm.
Florida’s advertising rules, built in
Florida’s lawyer advertising rules include a filing step with the Bar, and a few details catch firms out online:
Filing comes first
Rule 4-7.19 of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar asks you to file a copy of each ad with the Bar at least 20 days before it first runs. Rule 4-7.20 lists the exceptions, including sponsored search results with no images, audio or video beyond the basic details the rules allow.
“No fee unless we win” needs more
Rule 4-7.14 says an ad that mentions your fee, including no fee without a recovery, has to disclose all the fees and expenses the client might owe.
Careful with “specialist” and “expert”
The same rule allows those words only if the lawyer is certified under the Florida Certification Plan or an accredited plan, or can objectively back up the claim with education, training, experience or substantial work in that area.
Mail and email to accident victims
Rule 4-7.18 bars written solicitation about an accident until it’s more than 30 days old, and permitted emails must start the subject line with “Advertisement”.
We write your pages, ads and Google Business Profile posts within these rules and flag anything that needs your sign-off. You still have the final say on what your firm advertises, but you shouldn’t have to catch rule problems yourself.

Questions firms ask
Do you have an office in Tampa?
No. PointClick is a California-based company and our team works remotely, so we meet Tampa clients on Zoom or by phone. Your marketing is about your office and your market, not ours: we plan around your address, your courts and the competitors your clients actually see.
Do you work with firms in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Brandon and the rest of the metro?
Yes. We work with firms anywhere in the Tampa Bay area, including Hillsborough County, Pinellas County, Pasco County and Hernando County, from Largo and New Port Richey to Brooksville. If you have more than one office, each one gets its own Google Business Profile and its own location page on your website.
Can you get my Tampa firm into the map results in St. Petersburg or Clearwater?
Sometimes, but distance matters. Google weighs how close a firm is to the person searching, so your profile is strongest near your office. Across the bay, reviews, a strong profile and good pages for those areas widen your reach. We don't create virtual offices to cover more towns: Google suspends profiles for that, and it puts your firm at risk.
How much does law firm marketing in Tampa cost with PointClick?
The PointClick Client System starts at $2,500/month. Firms in competitive practice areas, like personal injury and criminal defense, often need more content and link building, so they may invest more. Paid ads are an add-on at $1,500/month plus the ad spend you pay Google and Meta directly. We quote a firm number after the free Growth Audit.
How long before SEO brings in cases?
Some fixes help within weeks, like a Google Business Profile that's finally complete or a form that actually reaches you. Rankings for competitive Tampa searches take months. We recommend at least three months for SEO, and if you need calls sooner, Google Ads and Local Services Ads can bring them in while rankings build.
